Defining Objectives
I recently had to translate a letter from a homeowner to a loan company from Spanish to English and came across a lot of instances where his tone of voice was reflected in the clients ten page paper. Through the document and with his tone he portrayed how he was ignored by the loan company. It is always a challenge to portray the tone of the paper from one language to another as words cannot just simply be directly translated. Most of the time the tone of a translated paper gets lost in translation as the objective of the translator is to give meaning to the words over carrying out the personality of the writer.

Good observation. I didn't think about the implications of tone being lost in translation. Much like tone being lost in electronic communication, translation forces the reader to only consider the meaning of the words rather than the feelings behind them.
I am impressed and even a bit envious of your ability to translate Spanish to English! My friend from Peru has some trouble with his English, and I with my Spanish, and I'm figuring out rather quickly how translations from one language to another can be very easily misinterpreted.
